The role of single-dose HPV vaccination in expanding access
Sixteen country-specific HPVsim models quantify how much single-dose HPV vaccination schedules — endorsed by WHO in 2022 — have already expanded access across Gavi-supported countries facing vaccine supply constraints.
Key findings
- Single-dose adoption reached an estimated 18.5 million additional girls across 16 Gavi-supported countries by the end of 2024.
- Projected to prevent at least 297,000 future cervical cancers, using a conservative two-dose counterfactual.
- Number needed to vaccinate per cancer case prevented: around 63, in line with previously published estimates.
